Installation weekend - the day so many have worked so long and diligently for has finally arrived!
Anytime we mark such a major transition within the life of a family of faith with formal ceremony it is worth taking a few moments to consider where we have been...
Twelve years ago, three churches had vision to see beyond what they could do on their own to all they could accomplish togehter. They then had the courage to step outside their comfort zones into the future that God was already holding.
That was an incredibly brave thing to do. It meant embracing possibility. Accepting transformation as a reality. Realizing that change will happen.
Three installations later (now), you all have seen ups and downs, challenges and celebrations, the very worst that humanity and disease have wrought and some of the most miraculous in technological advances and the very best of wondrous compassion and community.
The road that led all of us to this time and place was not a straight one. It had twists and turns and sometimes it probably felt like we were spinning in circles. And yet, God led us right to the exact spot we were meant to be.
This weekend, we will mark the beginning of this new chapter in our church's story with pomp and circumstance, music and maybe even a little swaying (I know Presbyterians are loath to dance in worship). And as the joy and excitement throng the air, may we all remember that the same Spirit who brought us here will continue to guide us into the future that God continues to hold. Which is very good news, because...
Grace changes everything!
Blessings,
Rev. Janie
